Key move. Nicolas Renard named new CEO of MSD Romania

Nicolas Renard has become the new CEO of MSD Romania, replacing Fabrizio Giombini, one of the longest serving CEOs in the pharmaceutical industry, who will take over another leading role at MSD.

With an experience of over 16 years in MSD, Nicolas Renard will accelerate the strategic development of the Romania branch, among the first ten pharmaceutical companies on the local market. With extensive business experience in emerging markets, Renard will continue MSD’s success story in Romania, with a main focus on increasing access to innovation and identifying viable solutions for the major public health challenges in Romania.

Before this appointment, Renard was Global Portfolio Leader for the Pain franchise in the Diversified Brands division, where he successfully introduced an innovation pillar for creating integrated solutions for health services, managing to create a strong competitive advantage for MSD and bring added value for patients in this segment. Between 2012 and 2015, he was Managing Director of MSD North & West African Cluster. Previously, he had a series of senior management positions in the vaccines and diabetes divisions.

Renard will collaborate both with the local and the regional leadership teams – MSD Romania is part of the MSD Balkans region – to develop and implement a series of strategic initiatives meant to increase patients’ access to innovative medicine, vaccines and biological therapies. He also has the objective of continuing the company’s dynamic growth, including through the promotion of “beyond the pill” solutions and services.
