Flamenco, classical and new genres – third run in Bucharest

The third edition of the “Classic Flamenco and New Genre” festival, an event dedicated to flamenco art tradition, is taking place from March 3 to 26 in several locations inBucharestincluding the Great Hall of National Theatre “Ion Luca Caragiale”, the Radio Hall, the Romanian Athenaeum Hall, the ArCub Hall.

Dance company Belen Maya offered in the debut of the festival a complex perspective over how the flamenco dance can be defined in its entire musical, poetical and choreographic code. La Shica band (Elsa Royano) followed with their innovative show combining flamenco dance with influences from rock, pop and rap.

Pablo Sainz Villegas, considered by critics one of the greatest guitarists of our time, will connect with the audience in a live performance in two concerts on March 10 at Athenaeum Hall and March 11 at Radio Hall. The concerts will comprise a selection of compositions for guitar written by leading Spanish composers. Sainz Villegas has built a successful career performing in over thirty countries in prestigious venues such as the Berlin Philharmonic, Carnegie Hall in New York and Musikverein inVienna and has been extended repeated invitations to the Tchaikovsky Theatre in Moscow and St. Petersburg Philharmonic.

The festival will continue on March 15-16 at ArtCub Hall with David Palomar concerts. Surrounded by great flamenco musicians such as Ricky Rivera (guitar), Ale Benitez (bass), Javier Katumba (percussion) and Anabel Rivera (vocal accompaniment), David Palomar, who creates flamenco in the most spectacular fashion, will bring to Bucharest a  selection of songs from his shows La Dada del Poncho Rojo and Homenaje Flamenco a Chavela Vargas.

One of the most eminent pianists of our times, Jorge Federico Osorio was invited to performe on March 24 at Atheneum Great Hall. Born in Ciudad de Mexico, Jorge Federico Osorio studied at the conservatories of Mexico, Paris and Moscow under masters such as Luz Maria Puente, Bernard Flavigny, Jacob Milstein and, later in New York, Nadia Reisenberg. Today, Osorio is acclaimed internationally as one of the most eminent pianists of our time, and has been invited to perform with the great orchestras of the world. His program will include a selection of the most popular Spanish tracks by composers such as Manuel De Falla, Francisco Tarrega, Isaac Albeniz and Jorge Federico.

The third run of the Classic Flamenco and new Genre Festival will complete the series of  events dedicated to this artistic genre with  jazz flamenco concerts  supported by one of the most influential and original Spanish musical duos: saxophonist Jorge Pardo and pianist Isaac Turienzo on March 25 and 26 at Radio Hall.

The event is organized by the Cervantes Institute inBucharestand the Embassy of Spain inRomania.
