FDI plummets by 31.5 percent in the first five months of 2010

Foreign direct investments (FDI) to Romania reached EUR 1.433 billion in the first five months of 2010, plummeting by 31.5 percent against the same period last year, according to data released today by the National Bank of Romania (NBR).

Out of the total EUR 1.43 billion, equity stakes (including reinvested earnings) amounted to EUR 1.2 million (as compared with EUR 1,240 million over January-May 2009) and intra-group loans to EUR 228 million (as compared with EUR 854 million).

According to the same source, FDI covered 50 percent of the current account deficit which reached EUR 2.86 million in the first five months of the year, 45.7 percent higher on the same period in 2009.
