The EBRD (European Bank for Reconstruction and Development) loaned EUR 7.8 million to Aquabis, a water utility company, for modernization of the water infrastructure in Bistrita-Nasaud County, in north-western Romania.
The project will enable the company to extend its coverage for drinking water from 84 percent to 98 percent and from 60 percent to 91 percent for wastewater by 2013. Around 134,000 residents will benefit from safer sources of water supply and sanitation services.
The loan will be used to co-finance the company’s RON 344 million EU Cohesion Fund regional investment programme. The EBRD loan is supported by EUR 765,000 in grant financing for technical assistance provided by the Spanish government and the Bank’s Shareholder Special Fund.
