The cobblestone that was collected following the rehabilitation of the Constantin Prezan and Aviatorilor Boulevards will be used to pave the old center of the city, according to the Bucharest City mayor, Sorin Oprescu.
Thus, Oprescu said the paving stone collected from these two boulevards “was counted piece by piece and then re-counted piece by piece and stored on the Cooperativei St. I trust and guarantee that this stone, considered a historic monument, will end up in the old city center,” said Oprescu.
The mayor said that, given the value both historical and financial of the stone, this will be used to pave certain streets and squares in that area.
The project for the rehabilitation of the Aviatorilor Blvd.- Charles de Gaulle Square- Mircea Eliade Blvd. was approved by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage at the beginning of June. The project stipulated that the cubic paving stone would be replaced with asphalt, with the exception of the parcels around Aviatorilor Blvd., and the pavements.
