Businessman Sorin Ovidiu Vîntu received a half-year sentence for blackmail, as decided by the Court of Justice in sector 1. The decision is not definitive and can be contested.

On May 23, 2011, Sorin Ovidiu Vintu and Ion Ilie Cezar were prosecuted and taken into custody under the charge that they blackmailed businessman Sebastian Ghita to return EUR 150,000 or to accept to denounce a contract under threat of harming his family and public image.

Vintu and Ghita were involved in a conflict regarding the Realitatea Media group. Vintu used to be the owner of the group, which he later sold to businessman Elan Schwartzenberg, while Sebastian Ghita had signed a contract for the management of the television channel.
