Bucharest and 21 counties in southern and western Romania will remain under orange alert for hot weather and thermal discomfort until Sunday evening, announced the Romanian Meteorological Administration (ANM). For the rest of the country a yellow alert for hot weather has been issued for the same period.
The weekend will be sunny in Bucharest and temperatures are expected to reach a maximum of 40 degrees Celsius during the day, making the temperature-humidity index (THI) exceed the comfort threshold of 80 units. At night the temperature will not drop below 21 degrees Celsius.
The weather will be hot and sunny in mountain areas also, says ANM. The weekend will bring lots of sun in the Black Sea seaside resorts and temperatures as high as 29 to 33 degrees. Water temperature will be between 24 and 26 degrees Celsius.
The counties under orange alert for hot weather are: Bihor, Arad, Timis, Caras-Severin, Hunedoara, Alba, Gorj, Mehedinti, Dolj, Valcea, Arges, Olt, Teleorman, Dambovita, Prahova, Ilfov, Giurgiu, Calaraşi, Ialomita, Buzau and Braila.
The second half of Sunday could see rains in north-western Romania, the central part of the country and mountain areas.
