Bucharest ranks 82nd on list of most liveable world cities

The Romanian capital, Bucharest, ranked 82nd on the list of most liveable world cities, compiled by the Economist Intelligence Unit as part of its 2018 Global Liveability Ranking . The ranking was topped by Vienna, which toppled Melbourne to become the world’s most liveable city.

In the ranking, Bucharest tied with Belgrade, Serbia and Shenzhen, China and came ahead of regional cities such as Istanbul (108) or Kiev, Ukraine (118), the fastest climber of this year’s ranking.

The second-best ranked European city is Copenhagen, Denmark ranked 9th, followed by Zurich Switzerland which came 11th, Frankfurt, Germany ranked 12th, Geneva, Switzerland, ranked 14th, Helsinki Finland, which came 16th and Amsterdam, ranked 19th.

This is the first time a European city tops the ranking, ending Melbourne’s record seven consecutive years at the head of the survey. The ranking surveys 140 cities from around the globe.

Syria’s capital, Damascus, was ranked the least liveable city. Other cities included in the bottom ten are Algiers, Algeria (132nd), Tripoli, Libya (134th), Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea (136th) and Dhaka, Bangladesh (139th).
