Apple has launched a new iPad model – the cheapest one the company has released until now.
The new tablet, simply called “iPad”, has a 9.7 inch retina display and Touch ID. Considering that it is the cheapest model to date, its powerful chipset may be surprising – it comes with an A10 Fusion chipset, the second best after A10X Fusion, available on iPad Pro.
The new iPad has 2 GB of RAM, 32/128 GB storage space, an 8 MP camera. It also offers users 200 GB of free iCloud storage, compared to the usual 5 GB Apple offers for its devices.
The 32 GB Wi-Fi version costs USD 329, while the 128 GB Wi-Fi tablet will be USD 429. The versions will mobile data will cost USD 459 and USD 559 respectively.
Apple also offers an Apple Pencil stylus which allows handwriting and drawing on the display, but it is sold separately for USD 99.
Through its new tablet, Apple is trying to get a higher share in the educational market. According to Bloomberg, Apple has just 17 percent of this market in the US, while Google holds around 60 percent.
