Local pharmaceutical company A&D Pharma is planning to tap into the private medical services market with a new dedicated division, Anima Specialty Medical Services, according to a recent announcement to the London Stock Exchange, where the firm’s shares are traded. Anima will offer medical services to both corporate clients and individuals and is planning to develop a network of medical services and facilities throughout Romania. A&D Pharma joins several existing players which offer private medical services, such as CMU, MedLife and Euroclinic.
The company has been active in drug retail, through the Sensiblu pharmacy chain, distribution with Mediplus and the sales and marketing of pharmaceutical products and cosmetics. It runs the largest chain of pharmacies under the Sensiblu brand in Romania, with 220 units in 51 Romanian cities. The firm has recently acquired several pharmaceutical companies in Bulgaria, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic for a total of EUR 23 million. The companies, most of which are under the Ozone Laboratories brand, were affiliates of the A&D Pharma group, as the founding shareholders of A&D Pharma were also founding shareholders of these entities.
A&D Pharma has recently made changes to its management structure, after Claudiu Opran, the former chief executive officer of the group, stepped down. He was replaced by CEO Robert Popescu, who will also be COO of the Sensiblu retail chain.
The pharmaceutical company posted EUR 364 million in turnover in the first nine months of last year, down 3 percent on the same period of the previous year.
