Romania aims to attract this year three times more European funds than it has absorbed in the first five years since accession to the European Union, said Leonard Orban, minister of European affairs.
“We wish to absorb in 2012 European funds of minimum EUR 6 billion, of which EUR 2.5 billion from the funds allocated for agriculture and EUR 3.5 billion from cohesion funds,” said Orban.
Until September 2011, Romania managed to absorb EUR 1.2 billion. In a similar period, Poland managed to attract approximately EUR 18 billion,” said Orban.
“Imagine that EUR 3.5 billion means to absorb in a year 3.5 times more than in the first 5 years,” he explained.
