Uber Technologies Inc is planning to file for an initial public offering in April, according to people familiar with the matter cited by Reuters.
The company will release its public disclosure next month and launch an investor roadshow, the sources said.
Uber is in a race with smaller rival Lyft, which has announced its own IPO, expected to be completed by the end of March. Both companies posted losses in 2018. Uber’s business is much larger and more diverse than Lyft’s, however.
Uber has recently been valued at USD 76 billion in the private market and is seeking a valuation as high as USD 120 billion. It operates in more than 70 countries and includes ride-hailing, bike and scooter rentals, freight hauling, food delivery and a self-driving car division.
Lyft seeks a valuation of USD 20 to 25 billion, having been valued at USD 15 billion as a private company. It operates in about 300 US cities and also expanded into Canada in 2017.
