Editorial: The game changers

“More than half of the world’s population lives in cities, and most future population growth is predicted to occur in urban areas. Cities are also responsible for 70 percent of global GHG emissions, according to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)—and they are highly exposed to many of the impacts of the climate change to which they massively contribute, in particular heat stress, flooding, and health emergencies. All of this makes clear the urgent need to transform our cities into smart(er) and (more) sustainable communities.

Climate change, digital transformation, and the aspirations of the young generations are just some of the challenges players in the real estate sector are facing today. New generations are forcing them to rethink their operating models. As pundits say, the future winners in the real estate industry will be those who place sustainability and people’s experiences at the heart of their investment decisions. Some real estate developers think that buildings should not only be suitable for the technologies available on the market today, but be truly future-proof, ready for the technologies that might arrive in the future—which may be described as a bold and visionary approach.

We’re dedicating this month’s cover story to the biggest healthcare transaction of the year, whereby private healthcare network Regina Maria has joined forces with the leader of the oral medicine sector, Dr. Leahu Dental Clinics, to take this market segment to the next level. The move is significant considering the fact that Romania’s dental care services market is highly fragmented, almost entirely private, and lacking in visibility. Therefore, consolidation is the only way for this sector to develop further so that all Romanians can have access to high-quality dental care services nationwide.”
