Editorial: A smart approach for smart(er) communities

“Romania is becoming a logistics hub for the entire Central and Eastern European region, as well as for Southern Europe countries. Development around Bucharest and the larger cities in the centre and west have matured, allowing developers to take a different approach. At the same time, other regions in the country, such as Constanta, have also been developing at faster rates and catching up to the areas that have historically spearheaded the rise in average GDP per capita. A significant investment was recently made in the port of Constanta following the expansion of the port terminal operated by DP World, where the company opened three new major sites, providing a significant boost to the country’s growing status as a key hub for European trade and enabling economic growth throughout the region. Although Romania is still on investors’ radar, the current macroeconomic context is highly complex, while the world of work is ever-evolving. Employers need to adjust to the new realities of the labour market, focusing on their employees and on the new technologies that are about to shape the future of work. This is why we sat down with some of the most relevant employers of the moment and learned what makes a successful human resources approach. Last but not least, the future of our country depends on how it will manage to create the premises for the development of sustainable and smart communities that will be able to respond to the growing demand for resilient urban landscapes. Building sustainably, implementing environmentally-friendly technologies to eliminate pollution in production and consumption, and striving for climate neutrality are all essential for the development of our country as a whole.”
