Editorial: Going green

“Environmentalism and sustainability are at the forefront of all economic recovery plans, as key organisations such as the European Union or the United Nations are setting ambitious goals that private enterprises around the world are picking up on, accelerating the change. To further explore these trends, Business Review Magazine organised a two-day Environmental & Sustainability Summit at the beginning of October, providing a platform for discussion and debate around the most pressing issues facing the world of today and tomorrow. At the regional level, the von der Leyen Commission’s goal is to set the EU on track to achieve a net zero carbon economy by 2050, thus also reflecting its commitment to the objectives of the Paris Agreement.

Shifting to the national level, agriculture is an important part of sustainability in Romania. The strategy for the sector was a topic tackled by Florian Ciolacu, Executive Director at the Romanian Farmers’ Club for Performance in Agriculture. Solutions for the agricultural industry on the local level include integrated water and soil management, irrigation and desiccation, precision farming and digital agriculture, advice and consultancy, and investment financing. In Romania, about 5,000 farms work about a third of the total agricultural land and produce three quarters of the country’s total output.

Last but not least, since sustainability is a top priority for companies as well, we’ve dedicated this month’s cover story to Trust Expert, a fully Romanian company specialising in HVAC systems. Over the past 15 years, heat pumps have been at the core of its business, together with promoting their adoption on a large scale, as more economical and sustainable alternatives to conventional heating or cooling systems.”
