The “Brancusi: Romanian Sources and Universal Perspectives” exhibition, presently hosted at the National Museum of Art in Timisoara, will have extended hours, remaining open for 24 hours on December 20. This date holds symbolic significance for Timisoara as it commemorates the 34th anniversary since the city became the first in Romania to be liberated from communism.

Alin Nica, the president of the Timis County Council, announced that the number of visitors has already exceeded expectations. By the beginning of December, the visitor count had already surpassed 80,000, and if the interest remains high — evidenced by constant queues at the entrance to the exhibition — it could likely exceed one hundred thousand people.

Valued at over half a billion euros, all the artworks comprising the exhibition “Brancusi: Romanian Sources and Universal Perspectives” at the National Museum of Art in Timisoara will be open to visitors until the end of January 2024.

The exhibition includes 22 sculptures, 11 drawings, 55 photographs, and various archival documents. “Brâncuși: Romanian Sources and Universal Perspectives,” curated by Doina Lemny, brings together iconic works of the artist, both from his youth and maturity, thus tracing the trajectory that has established the artist’s works in the universal heritage.

This is the first event of this scale in Romania in the last 50 years dedicated to Constantin Brâncuși

This exhibition benefits from exceptional sculpture loans from the National Museum of Modern Art/ Pompidou Center in Paris, Tate Modern in London, Guggenheim Foundation in Venice, National Museum of Modern Art in Bucharest, and National Art Museum in Craiova, as well as from private collections.

A significant part of Constantin Brâncuși’s work is dedicated to photography, to which he devoted great passion. The exhibition also features a extensive selection of his photographic work, along with works on paper and video fragments filmed by Brâncuși himself, completing the portrait of this great artist of the 20th century.

The exhibition has audio support in Romanian and English

The audio guidance for the exhibition is provided by Radio Romania Cultural. The audience can scan the QR codes displayed in the rooms of the National Museum of Art in Timisoara to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of each space hosting the works of Constantin Brancusi. The QR code will allow access to the bilingual audio guide with texts written by Daria Ghiu. The reading is done by Florin Piersic Jr. in Romanian and by Ana Ularu in English.

Exhibition schedule

The exhibition will be open until January 28, 2024, from Wednesday to Sunday, between 10:00 AM and 8:00 PM. It will be closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, as well as on December 24 – 26, December 31, and January 1 – 2, 2024.

“Brâncuși: Romanian Sources and Universal Perspectives” is organized by the National Art Museum Timișoara, the Art Encounters Foundation, and the French Institute in Romania, with funding from the Timiș County Council.
