As the Olympics take center stage in the French capital this year, exceptional art and cultural exhibitions continue to shine on Paris’ annual events calendar, promising a delightful treat in 2024, among which are over 200 masterpieces by Constantin Brancusi, presented in a temporary exhibition at Centre Pompidou, from March 27 to July 1, 2024.

Prior to the temporary closure for renovations in 2025, the Centre Pompidou bids farewell to Romanian sculptor Constantin Brancusi with a comprehensive exhibition showcasing nearly 200 sculptures, photos, drawings, films, and archive documents. According to the official information, this marks the largest French retrospective dedicated to the influential Romanian sculptor.

The retrospective at the Centre Pompidou traces the extensive artistic journey of the sculptor, emphasizing the intricacies of the creative process. The comprehensive tour encompasses a visit to the sculptor’s studio, which is currently closed up until the opening of the exhibition. Here, visitors can delve into the space of life, encounter, creation, and contemplation, just as envisioned by Brancusi. More details about the exhibition, here.

Brancusi’s masterpieces are still available in Timisoara

The exhibition “Brâncuși: Romanian Sources and Universal Perspectives” is part of Timisoara Capital of Culture 2023 and includes 22 sculptures, 11 drawings, 55 photographs, and various archival documents. It is curated by Doina Lemny, and brings together iconic works of the artist, both from his youth and maturity, thus tracing the trajectory that has established the artist’s works in the universal heritage.

This is the first event of this scale in Romania in the last 50 years dedicated to Constantin Brâncuși

This exhibition benefits from exceptional sculpture loans from the National Museum of Modern Art/ Pompidou Center in Paris, Tate Modern in London, Guggenheim Foundation in Venice, National Museum of Modern Art in Bucharest, and National Art Museum in Craiova, as well as from private collections.

A significant part of Constantin Brâncuși’s work is dedicated to photography, to which he devoted great passion. The exhibition also features a extensive selection of his photographic work, along with works on paper and video fragments filmed by Brâncuși himself, completing the portrait of this great artist of the 20th century.

Exhibition schedule

The exhibition will be open until January 28, 2024, from Wednesday to Sunday, between 10:00 AM and 8:00 PM. “Brâncuși: Romanian Sources and Universal Perspectives” is organized by the National Art Museum Timișoara, the Art Encounters Foundation, and the French Institute in Romania, with funding from the Timiș County Council.
