Vodafone launches 4G on smartphones and expands coverage

Telecom operator Vodafone Romania has launched 4G mobile internet for smartphones as part of the RED packages which offer speeds of up to 100 Mbps.

Vodafone has also announced it has expanded its 4G network in Bucharest to cover 27 percent of the population– or 500,000 inhabitants. The Vodafone 4G network currently covers the central and Northern part of Bucharest (Romana Square, Dorobanti Avenue, Unirii Square, Regie and Leu, Grozavesti, Petricani, Otopeni, the French Village, the Zoo), commercial centers (Plaza Romania, Big Berceni, Carrefour Berceni, AFI Palace Cotroceni, Baneasa Shopping City), office buildings (America House, Opera Business Center, Victoria Park, Bucharest Business Park, Petrom City 2, Baneasa Business Center) and certain institutions (Parliament Palace, The Government, The Police Academy, The Henry-Coanda Airport- Departures).

“The 4G services are now available to our subscribers with increased network coverage in Bucharest but also in other 9 large cities, most of them with over 90 percent LTE coverage,” according to Markus Lause, director enterprise business unit Vodafone Romania.

Clients who have the RED 65 package benefit from download speeds of up to 100 Mbps, while clients with RED 45 packages benefit from download speeds of up to 75 Mbps.

Furthermore, all Vodafone subscribers, individual clients or companies, who have a 4G compatible handset can benefit from 4G speeds with the new option Smartphone Turbo 4G, available for EUR 5 per month.

Vodafone already offers a range of 4G compatible smartphones at prices that start from EUR 1, with the two-year postpay packages RED 45 and RED 65.

Business clients can also purchase a smartphone starting from EUR 1 in combination with the packages Business RED Plus (for EUR 85, no VAT), which allows speeds of up to 100 Mbps and Business RED (EUR 50, no VAT), with speeds of up to 75 Mbps.

The Vodafone 4G network covers 10 cities in Romania with speeds of up to 100 Mbps:  Arad – 90.3 percent, Bacau – 98.5 percent, Brasov – 98.5 percent, Cluj – 97.7 percent, Constanta – 58.2 percent, Craiova – 99.9 percent, Iasi – 95.6 percent, Galati – 83.1 percent, Timisoara – 98.8 percent and Bucharest, 27 percent.
