US Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel would embark on a 12-day trip next week to Europe and Asia to discuss key regional and global issues with leaders of several countries, his spokesperson said.
Hagel will reach Romania after travelling to Singapore and then Brussels. In Singapore, Hagel will deliver remarks at the annual Shangri-La dialogue and hold a series of bilateral and multilateral meetings with other ministers of defense.
In Brussels, the head of the Pentagon will participate in his fourth NATO defense ministers meeting.
In Romania, the Defense Secretary will visit a US Navy Ship and talk to the minister of Defense about ways to strengthen NATO’s presence in the country.
“This visit gives him the opportunity to visit sailors aboard a US Navy ship which will be in port there and to consult bilaterally with Romania’s minister of defense on ways to strengthen NATO’s deterrence,” according to Hagel’s spokesperson, writes ft.com.
