UPDATE: Digital television tender continues with final round next week

After the first primary rounds organized on Thursday and the supplementary round that took place on Friday, the national telecom watchdog announced that the winners and the core prices they must pay for the licenses were already selected.

The tender will continue with a new round that will take place on June 10 starting 10 a.m.

This allocation round is the last stage in the tender, when the multiplexes acquired in the UHF (ultra-high frequency) bandwidth, with the exception of the “free-to-air” multiplex, will be allocated.

RCS&RDS and the National Radio-communications Company (SNR) are the candidates in the tender.

The winners can express their preferences regarding specific allocation and will submit an offer stipulating the sum they are willing to pay extra.

After the allocation round, the final prices that the candidates must pay for the multiplexes they won will be established.

The results of the procedure will be made public after it is completed.

The country’s telecom watchdog ANCOM is in charge of allocating five national digital multiplexes in the DVB-T2 standard: four in the UHF (ultra-high frequency) band and one in the VHF (very-high frequency) band. All the multiplexes will be awarded for a ten-year period. The licenses will be valid from June 17, 2015.

All the multiplexes will be granted for 10 years, and the licenses will come into force starting June 2015. The winner must pay the license tax within at most 90 days since the results of the selection procedures.

In 2006, Romania committed, alongside another 102 countries from Europe, Africa and Asia, to switch from analog cable to digital terrestrial television before June 17, 2015.
