Romania’s highway network, which currently has 700 kilometers, will be extended with 80-90 kilometers of motorway this year, said the general manager of the National Company of Highways and National Roads in Romania (CNADNR), Narcis Neaga.

“Last week I visited various building sites and I can tell you, with last week’s certainty and seeing the real situation on the spot, that the Nadlac – Arad motorway will be fully completed in 2015, the second lot of the Timisoara – Lugoj highway will be fully completed in 2015, although contractually it must be finished in 2016. The surprise came from a constructor on the second lot of the Lugoj – Deva highway, which will complete this year 17 kilometers,” said the CNADNR head.

Accordingly, this year will be open for use approximately 80-90 kilometers of highway, added the general manager of CNADNR.

The minister of Transport Ioan Rus, estimated in mid-January that Romania will complete 250 kilometers of highway over the 2015-2016 period.

CNADNR opened 50 kilometers of highway last year (22 kilometers between Orastie and Sibiu, respectively 28 kilometers between Nadlac and Arad), less than half the 2013 level.
