Romania’s February trade deficit falls to lowest level in 10 yrs

Romania’s trade deficit amounted to EUR 208.2 million this February, down by EUR 301.1 million y-o-y, this being lowest monthly level reported over the past 10 years, according to data published today by the National Institute of Statistics.

This February exports reached EUR 3.87 billion (FOB) which represented an increase of 10.8 percent (RON)/ 10 percent (EUR) while imports represented EUR 4.08 billion (CIF) which was up by 2 percent (RON)/1.3 percent (EUR) compared to February 2012.

In the first two months of 2013, FOB exports reached EUR 7.57 billion and CIF imports amounted to EUR 8.08 billion.

Overall, Romania reported a trade deficit worth EUR 508 million in the first two months of 2013 which was about EUR 460 million lower than the one reported in January and February 2012.

Exports increased by 9.4 percent (RON)/ 8.1 percent (EUR) during the above mentioned period (y-o-y), while imports went up by 2.5 percent (RON)/ 1.3 percent (EUR).

Machinery and transport equipment represented the largest share of both imports and exports – 42.4 percent of exports and 34.4 percent of imports followed by other manufactured goods which represented 34 percent of exporst and 29.6 percent of imports.

In 2012 Romania registered a trade deficit of EUR 9.5 billion, close to the level reported in 2011. Exports stood at EUR 45 billion while imports amounted to EUR 54.6 billion.
