Romanians can receive their new electronic passports at home

Romanians can receive their new electronic passports at home, as authorities have introduced the option to deliver the passport once done, writes Adevarul newspaper. Those persons who will chose the delivery system will be contacted by SMS in order to find out the delivery details: the date of the delivery, the number of the request and the address.

The courier waits for the passport’s holder five days, and then the passport can be taken from the local passport offices, if he/she can not be reached by phone or found at the address.

If they want the passport to be delivered via courier at home, Romanians will have to pay an extra RON 8.7. The passport will be delivered only to its holder and the new delivery option starts today. However, those who want a new passport will still have to submit the documents in person.

The electronic passport is issued only by request. Documents should be submitted to the local passport offices for those who live in Romania, or to Romania’s diplomatic and consular missions for those who live abroad.

Currently, a passport is ready within 14 days for applicants who currently live in Romania. If you want to apply for a passport, you will need a valid ID card in original, the birth certificate in original, the previous passport (if the case), and the payment proof of passport issuance fees. The costs are RON 270 to issue the electronic passport, and RON 22 for other fees, which can be paid at CEC Bank units. For those who are living outside Romania, the taxes and fees are given by the respective diplomatic and consular missions.
