The 2012 Nobel Peace Prize Concert, which will be held on December 11, will feature the Romanian Gypsy brass band Fanfara Ciocarlia, together with the Portuguese Tasca band OqueStrada, Jennifer Hudson, an American academy award-winning actress and Grammy Award-winning recording artist and Seal, the British soul and R&B singer-songwriter. From Norway, the lineup of performers who will take the stage at this year’s concert are Norwegian singer Susanne Sundfør, Oslo Hip-Hop group Karpe Diem, and the Swedish star Laleh. Sarah Jessica Parker and Gerard Butler will co-host the concert.
The Romanian Gypsy brass band Fanfara Ciocarlia, whose name translates as “the lark’s orchestra,” are the legends of Gypsy brass from Romania who strive to keep a style of music taught by their predecessors alive. Since 1997, the fanfare’s recordings have taken their funky Balkans groove into dance clubs across the planet while their radical reinterpretations of Western classics have been used in films. Fanfara Ciocarlia has released eight albums, several of which have topped the European World Music charts.
