Romania has two major objectives set for 2019, when it will hold the European Union presidency, namely joining the Euro Zone and the Republic of Moldova’s EU integration, Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta said during a visit to Sculeni (western Republic of Moldova, on the Romanian eastern border) on Tuesday to mark the lifting of visas for the Moldovan nationals traveling to the EU states.

‘We will hold the EU presidency in the second half of 2019. Romania must be in the Euro Zone on January 1, 2019. So, we will have two major objectives in 2019, on January 1 — the Euro Zone and on July 1 — the Union presidency, with you as members’, Ponta told Moldovan Prime Minister Iurie Leaca, while crossing the checkpoint from Moldova to Romania.

The European Parliament has formally adopted a decision to allow Moldovan citizens with biometric passports to travel visa-free in the Schengen zone as of April 28. The decision was signed in Brussels on April 3.

“It is a highly expected news for every citizen over the Prut, for everybody who believes in the European ideal, in Moldova’s return to the community of values that it naturally belongs to  – the European Union”, Victor Ponta said on Monday.
