Telecom operator Orange Romania announced it has launched 4G + services offering internet speeds of up to 300 Mbps in Romania, available in Bucharest, Brasov, Cluj-Napoca, Galati, Iasi and Timisoara.

The service is compatible with smartphone models Samsung Galaxy S5 4G+, Samsung Galaxy Alpha 4G+ and Huawei E5786, which are currently in the operator’s offer.

Starting September 22, the 4G + service will be available in all the company’s Pantera bundles as well as the Business Open subscriptions.

The company also announced the launch of 4G internet at the subway, given that over the past year, the mobile internet traffic in the Orange network has doubled.

“Orange customers are adopting 4G services at a faster rate than in case of the 3G services,” said Jean-Francois Fallacher, CEO of Orange Romania.

The company said the approximately 650,000 Bucharesters who are commuting daily by subway have access to speeds of up to 150 Mbps from now on.

Company representatives did not say the exact investment in deploying 4G at the subway, only that it cost “millions of EUR.” “We are planning to have our entire urban network on optic fiber backbone,” said Orange officials.”

This technology we are bringing is not only beneficial for our customers but also for us because it allows energy saving and network optimization,” they expained.

The Orange 4G network has expanded by 200 new localities.

At the moment, Orange covers with 4G over 1,300 Romanian localities, representing 48 percent of the country population and 78 percent of the urban population.

Loyal Orange customers will also receive every month 1GB of 4G traffic for every year they have spent as customers of the operators.

The company also has in place a buyback scheme in place, offering EUR 30 discount to anyone who buys a 4G compatible device and surrender their old phone,” according to Julien Ducarroz.

Orange Romania also received last week the approval of the National Audio-visual Council to launch Orange Info, which will offer information on its offer and services as well as a news TV show broadcast by Antena 1, according to Mediafax newswire.

Orange Info will broadcast around the clock and will mainly offer Orange programs (80 percent) as well as productions by other content providers (20 percent). The Orange Info program list will comprise news (45 percent),education and cultural programs (30 percent), entertainment (13 percent), advertising and teleshopping (12 percent).
