Austria’s OMV, the oil and gas company, unveiled plans to hire 1,600 specialists in the next three years, in a move to sustain the development of the exploration & production (E&P) arm in Norway and the Black Sea.

OMV said it’s looking for experienced technical staff, but also graduates in geosciences and oil engineering and will tap both the Austrian and international labor markets.

Gerhard Roiss, OMV CEO, said: “OMV’s focus has been on the Exploration & Production segment since 2011. This is now having a positive impact on the job market.”

“We will need 1,600 new employees to achieve the growth we have planned. We are looking for motivated individuals with a technical background and an interest in working in some of the most exciting places in the world,” he added.

The company needs fresh staff for ongoing investments in Norway and the Black sea and for other national and international projects. OMV will invest around EUR 2 billion yearly in the E&P segment in the years to come.

At present, the oil company is a partner in developing the Aasta Hansteen and Zidane gas fields in the Norwegian Sea, which includes the building of a gas platform. OMV is also developing a Black Sea block in partnership with US-based ExxonMobil, which it says could be “the largest gas discovery” in the company’s history.

OMV holds a majority stake in Romanian oil and gas company Petrom.
