National Day of mourning for the victims from Montenegro

June 26 was submitted as a national day of mourning in Romania, in sign of respect for the victims of the road accident occurred a few days ago, in Montenegro. This means that based on article 6 of Law No 75/16 July 1994, on the national day of mourning Romania’s national flag is to be hoisted to half-mast.

On this occasion, the central and local central authorities must raise Romania’s national flag to half-mast. Political parties, trade unions, employers’ associations, education institutions of any level, cultural institutions and diplomatic missions of Romania, at the border points, in airports, ports, stations and bus terminals, as well as on the ships of any kind and other boats sailing under Romanian flag will commemorate the victims through the flag.

In this accident, 18 people have died and 29 are injured in various stages and seven are in intensive care. The patients from the car crash are now in Bucharest hospitals: six at Floreasca Hospital, four to the University Hospital, one to Elias Hospital and one to Bagdasar-Arseni Hospital of Neuro-Surgery – a patient having sustained broken backbone.

According to Agerpres newswire, over the past 15 years, Romania declared national day of mourning on April 18, 2010, for the commemoration of the victims of the air accident of Smolensk, where a number of 96 persons died, among whom Poland’s President Lech Kaczynski, on August 3, 2007, at the funeral of the Patriarch Teoctist, who headed the Romanian Orthodox Church for 21 years, in 2005 – at the funeral of Pope John Paul the Second, in March 2004 – in the memory of the Romanian citizens, who were the victims of the terrorist attacks of Spain, as well as in September 2001 – after the terrorist attacks of the United States of America.
