Montenegro opened an embassy in Bucharest Romania officially on Tuesday, in the presence of the minister of foreign affairs and European Integration of Montenegro, Igor Luksic and the Romanian minister of foreign affairs Titus Corlatean.
Titus Corlatean and Igor Luksic had on Monday a meeting at the end of which the Romanian minister said that he was “very glad” that officially there will be an embassy of the Republic of Montenegro in Bucharest.
“We appreciate Montenegro’s efforts in the European and euroatlantic process and we are ready to continue (…) granting concrete support on a political and technical level to facilitate European integration”, Titus Corlatean commented, quoted by MEDIAFAX.
Igor Luksic replied by saying that opening Montenegro’s embassy in Bucharest “represents the symbolic beginning of a new prosperous chapter in the history of relations between the two countries”.
Milan Begovic is Montenegro’s first ambassador in Romania and he also serves as the ambassador for Moldova. On November 13 he presented his accreditation letters to president Traian Basescu.
Romania recognized Montenegro on June 13 2006, initiating diplomating relations two months later on August 9, 2006. The Romanian Embassy to Montenegro opened in October 2006 and is currently headed by ambassador Ferdinand Nagy (in function since November 2013).
