Metro Cash&Carry Romania recorded sales of EUR 909 million (RON 4.04 billion) in the last fiscal year, namely October 2013 – September 2014. During this interval, the retailer slashed its employee number by letting go 400 employees, with a total of 4,931 at the end of the year.
In Metro’s report, the retailer mentions its netwkr has 32 stores but in the meantime the Metro Punct unit in Pitesti has been closed down so the compaany has 31 units left: 26 in the cash&carry format and the rest in the Punct format.
According to financial date, Metro Cash&Carry posted a turnover of RON 4,73 billion (EUR 1.07 billion) last year, down 6 percent year on year on year. The net profit also suffered a 34 percent blow, down to RON 43.6 million (EUR 9.8 million).
In 2012, the German group sold 20 Real stores to french retailer Auchan, in a deal valued at EUR 1.1 billion. At the same time, the company exited the Ukrainian, Polish and Russian markets.
