The Ministry of Culture will delegate a commissioner to coordinate the internal competition to choose the Romanian city that will run in the European Cultural Capital (ECC) competition for 2021. Until now, Arad, Bucharest, Craiova, Iasi, Sfantu Gheroghe and Timisoara have announced their intention to run for cultural capital of the EU. The deadline to submitting candidacies is August 14.
The commissioner will be appointed next year on this position and he/she will be the equivalent of a state secretary, according to Culture Minister Kelemen Hunor, quoted by Mediafax.
Six years before the ECC title-year, the selected host Member States publish a call for applications, following which cities interested in participating in the competition must submit a proposal for consideration.
