After a week of being cooped up in the house, Bucharest movie-goer morale will be high for two consecutive evenings dedicated to short and hilarious comedies.

On saturday and sunday, ShortsUp is conducting a therapy session via quality humor, which will bring a smile on the faces of the most brooding of spectators. The Short Comedy Weekend will take place on February 1 and 2 at Cinema Patria and it includes two different programs of awarded short films, a contemporary art exhibit and a special entertainment space for practicing your own humorous routines.

The program brings together 21 short films from France, Ireland, USA, Australia, UK, Canda, New Zeeland and Romania. All the films will be bound together thematically by the story of finding your own identity in different cultural spaces. Some of the comedies selected take their inspiration from the day to day family life of the protagonists which are trying to make themselves known and respected. Others talk about love and the daring challenges it presents.

Bruce Lee Plays Badminton (r. Corrie Chen, Australia 2013) is one of the short films included, telling the story of a teenager that wants to become the best badminton player in the world. Black comedy will make its presence felt on Saturday, through Lost scarf (r. Eoin Duffy, Ireland, 2013), a digital animated tale of a squirrel that confronts its greatest fear. Diagnostic (r. Fabrice Bracq, France, 2013) is a tragic comedy about Doctor Semyc, a specialist in a emotional affliction that is yet without a cure.

Sunday night brings us face to face with romantic comedies, like Boy in the Baloon (r. Kealan O’Rourke,
Ireland, 2011), an animated movie that received the Audience awards at Palm Springs Shortfest.

Tickets for the Short Comedy Weekend can be purchased online through MyTicket and Eventim, priced at RON 25 per night or RON 40 for the entire weekend. At Cinema Patria they will cost RON 35 / per night.
