The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has granted a EUR 50 million loan to Turkish dairy producer Sutas to support its investment program.
Sutas will use to loan to build two integrated milk processing facilities in Turkey. In addition the company will make capex investments in existing plants and provide working capital for its subsidiaries in Macedonia and Romania.
“Transition impact is expected to derive from market expansion through backward and forward linkages, especially in Eastern Turkey where modern dairy farming is underdeveloped and consumers’ access to high quality dairy products is limited. The company will expand the supplier base, providing farmers with access to modern dairy value chains, complemented by technical assistance to improve milk output,” said the EBRD in a statement.
The Turkish producer acquired in April a factory near Bucharest from Israeli dairy producer Tnuva, which went into administration in 2012.
Sutas was founded in 1975 and currently employs close over 3,000 people.
