Galeriile Williams / Williams Galleries represent a multi-cultural space which encloses several art spaces and also a pub. Art shows, workshops, concerts and all kind of other cultural events are hosted regularly, as well as weekly exhibitions, as Marian Vasii, the manager of Williams Galleries told BR.

Oana Vasiliu

Which are the most important projects of the gallery this year?

The most daring project that Williams Gallery has is the White Night of the Galleries, where we presented over 30 artists, two openings, two plays, a poetry recital and also four concerts. Also, we will print a catalog that highlights the first half of the year and we have in mind a creative camp in autumn.

How developed is cultural management in Romania?

When I was in college, after the philosophy and aesthetics course I have had a cultural management one, so today I know what implies both definition and practice.  However, I find it hard to believe that Romania has experienced beyond theory and practice in this regard.

Which was the most expensive sold exhibit of the gallery and who made it?

Since I represent a different type of gallery, a nonconformist and free of charge one, I prefer to facilitate the contact between the artist and the buyer, without any other fees. The aim is to highlight the artist’s value and to encourage junior artists. Fortunately, there are many artists who have managed to sell their works of art due to exposure in the gallery. Dana Stefania Apostol may be nominated for the best selling in record time.

Are Romanians interested in buying art?

Amazingly, Romanians are interested in art, and having also a pub specific, I made this system where exhibitions are changed weekly. Thus, we discovered that the public returns and they are curious to discover the week’s new exhibition. Regarding the actually buying action, there are few who invest. Romanians are pragmatic persons who are opened to other artistic niches, such as design and hand-made.

How many artists have the gallery in the portofolio? Who are they?

In less than seven months, we have had over 70 artists who had presented over 1,000 works, as well as performances and live music.

The gallery can be found on 57 Mircea Vulcanescu Street, opened Mon – Sun: 2:00 pm – 11:00 pm. More information about this gallery can be found here.
