American actor John Malkovich to deliver George Enescu Festival representation

John Malkovich’s project “The Infernal Comedy. Confessions of a Serial Killer”, a staged public reading, will be staged during the George Enescu Festival in Bucharest, on September 9, at Sala Palatului.

“The Infernal Comedy. Confessions of a Serial Killer” combines elements of opera, chamber orchestra and theater. According to several reviews, at “several points Malkovich strangles a soprano with a bra in front of several violinists”, writes The Huffington Post.

The play is based on a real-life story of an Austrian serial killer, named Jack Unerweger, who was released from prison in 1990 after writing his own biography, claiming this why that he was rehabilitated. In the show, Malkovich plays Unerweger 15 years after his death, as he conducts a promotional book tour to sell his biography.

The George Enescu International Festival and Competition next takes place between September 1-28, 2013 in Bucharest. Run by the Romanian Ministry of Culture, the festival features three weeks of performances by high profile international orchestras and artists, as well as numerous Romanian artists and ensembles.

For the 2013 edition, the 21st edition since 1958, the organizers prepared more than 150 events, such as: six concerts of Romanian music, 14 recitals and chamber concerts, 14 famous orchestras performing 28 concerts, 21 orchestral and chamber ensembles, eight concerts under the “Enescu and his contemporaries” title, four opera concerts, two ballet shows, 48 concerts for the international competition, cultural manifestations in the festival’s square, art exhibitions and the Musicology Symposium.

The 21st edition of George Enescu festival will feature some of the most famous orchestras of the world, such as: the Royal Concertgebouw Amsterdam / Maris Jansons, Staatskapelle Berlin / Daniel Barenboim, Orchestra dell’Accademia Santa Cecilia di Roma / Antonio Pappano, Orchestre de Paris / Näme Järvi, London Philharmonic Orchestra / Vladimir Jurowski, Pittsburg Symphony Orchestra, Radio Berlin / Marek Janovski ( with the presentation of the Wagner’s Tetra-logy ), Royal Stockholm / Sakari Oramo, Münchener Philharmoniker / Symion Bychkov, Saint Martin in the Fields / Sir Nevil Marriner, Evgeny Kissin, Muray Perahia, Pinchas Zuckermann, National Russian Orchestra/ Michail Pletnev, Fazil Say, Turls Mörk. Romanian artists will also be part of this great event. Horia Andreescu, Cristian Mandeal, Philharmonic “George Enescu”, Cluj,Iaşi and Timişoara Philharmonics, Bucharest National Opera and Youth National Orchestra already confirmed their participation to the event.
