Participants from Kenya and Ethiopia won the annual Bucharest International Marathon, which saw 7,000 persons entering to the race. The first prize winner, Felix Kangogo, is for the first time in Romania and he finished the race in only two hours, 15 minutes and 19 seconds. The second place went to another Kenyan – Choge Amos Kipruto, who was three minutes behind the winner, with a total time of two hours, 18 minutes and 49 seconds. The third place was won by the Ethiopian Ararso Dibaba Merdasa, scoring two hours 19 minutes and 27 seconds.
At the women’s marathon, another Ethiopian won the race. Almaz Nagede Fekade finished the race in two hours 38 minutes and 9 seconds. Romania won third place, Claudia Paula Todoran, finishing the race in two hours 48 minutes and 20 seconds.
For the national marathon, the best time was scored by Alexandru Ilie Corneschi, who finished in two hours 36 minutes and 2 seconds.
The case of Florin Stanciu who runs for the future of Romanian’s children
A stand-out runner at the Bucharest Marathon was Florin Stanciu. He came to the marathon running from the Romanian city of Pitesti, to support the right of Romanian children to clean air and a healthy future.
After discovering his passion for running and the fact that he felt more peaceful, more compassionate and closer to God, as he is quoted, he came to the Bucharest International Marathon to run four marathons in one day and to be the voice of the Romanian new-born children. Florin ran almost 110 kilometers from Pitesti to Bucharest and finished all the four marathons.
