Almost 600 runners from 35 countries but also 15 elite marathon runners subscribed to Bucharest International Marathon that took place on Sunday, October 6 for the 42 km race. For this sixth edition of the event, the organizers offered over 150 prizes, 40 of which consist of money, in the seven races organized as part of the competition.
A novelty for this edition was the “Jogging in Diapers” race in which parents ran over a distance of 800 meters while pushing their babies’ carriages.
According to Agerpres newswire, the African runners have dominated the International Marathon in Bucharest that took place on Sunday, Kenyan athlete Victor Chelkoi winning the men’s race and Ethiopian Neri Tigist the women’s race.
The first Romanians that arrived at the finish line, becoming thus national champions, were Stefan Lupulescu (CS Pandurii Tg.Jiu), 2hrs25m25s and Maria Danci (CSM Resita), 2hrs48m54s, both ranking 5th in the two separate races.
On this occasion, Romanians Victor Vlad, Gabriel Solomon, Stefan Oprina, Mihai Baractaru, George Dobre and Florin Munteanu succeeded in entering the Guinness World Records,with a new record scored in the team of six relay race — 2hrs54m30s.
