Nearly 1,000 students from grades II-VII in Bucharest and Ilfov participated in the second edition of the digital competition on biodiversity, “Nature between Waters”, organized by Apa Nova in collaboration with Educatie Privata. The event, which took place from 09 May 2024 to 08 June 2024, was a real catalyst for raising awareness of the importance of protecting the environment and biodiversity among the younger generation.

Of the 951 participants registered, 133 were second graders, 127 third graders, 94 fourth graders, 240 fifth graders, 204 sixth graders, and 153 seventh graders. The top 100 students were rewarded with significant prizes. The champions of each class were awarded gift vouchers worth 2,000, 1,500, and 1,000 lei for first, second, and third place, while the other finalists were given gift kits to explore local biodiversity. Teachers who guided the students to victory were also recognized and awarded vouchers worth 1,000 lei.

The competition aimed to raise environmental awareness among the younger generation, highlighting the essence of preserving biodiversity and encouraging them to become deeply aware of their ecological responsibility towards the planet and the environment.

“Apa Nova is and will remain committed to protecting biodiversity. Our company has an extensive program of actions underway to preserve natural ecosystems on the sites of the Arcuda and Crivina water production and abstraction stations, which include no less than 169 hectares of green spaces and a fauna of over 200 species. Through this Olympiad, we aim to educate and inspire new generations to understand biodiversity’s importance and become ambassadors for environmental protection. At Apa Nova, we believe that every small action counts and that only we can ensure a sustainable future”, said Mădălin Mihailovici, Apa Nova’s General Manager, at the students’ award gala.

Compared to last year, when almost 600 students from grades II-VII in Bucharest and Ilfov took part in the “Nature between the Waters” school competition, the number of participants this year has increased significantly, demonstrating the growing interest of young people in environmental issues and their desire to get actively involved in solving them.
