More than 8,200 Romanians, aged between 16 and 65, have been trained nationwide as part of the Tech Generation program, organized by Digital Nation. The 19th edition started with Sibiu and Neamț counties, for young people and adults who want to develop practical skills in areas such as programming, web development, digital marketing, but also interpersonal skills.

Generation Tech is the program that is changing the way people learn. Combining the power of community and technology, it provides participants with a free training and support framework where mentors, companies and thousands of other people work together to prepare for the future. The program is aimed at those who want to explore whether a career in technology is right for them and take the first tangible steps in that direction, as well as those who want to change careers and reorient themselves towards the field.

The skills they acquire will give them access to remote jobs or paid internships at a level that is far more attractive than what is currently available in small and medium-sized cities. With access to well-paid remote jobs, young people can contribute to the economic growth of these communities.

The Tech Generation program is a public-private partnership, with the Sibiu-Neamț edition supported by Romgaz and the Piatra Neamț Municipality.

“ROMGAZ is firmly committed to supporting technological progress and the education of the younger generation. To this end, we have decided to provide significant support to the Generatia Tech project, an ambitious initiative aimed at investing in education, digitalization and artificial intelligence (AI). Digitalization is a driving force in the transformation of society and the modern economy. ROMGAZ recognizes the importance of adopting digital technologies in all areas of life, including the energy sector. Our commitment reflects the company’s vision of social responsibility and its contribution to the progress and sustainable development of society”, says Răzvan Popescu, CEO of ROMGAZ.

As a community-based learning program, the participants are called Explorers. Over 8 weeks, until 31 March, young people from Sibiu, Mediaș and Piatra Neamț will have access to interactive online platforms where they can interact in real time, 24/7, a community support, internal and partner mentors, a wide range of video resources, written resources, and AI-assisted support.

In addition to these resources, participants have access to weekly online meetings with mentors to receive guidance and overcome practical challenges. They also have the opportunity to attend optional face-to-face meetings at the hubs in Piatra Neamț and Brașov, as Generation Tech is the only training program in Europe to build its own technology hubs. As well as technical skills, participants also develop ‘soft’ skills – learning how to build confidence, work in teams and navigate the new reality of the labour market.

“Over the years, we have invested over €3 million in Generation Tech in physical technology hubs, ultra-interactive platforms with smart features, and a research and development lab focused on increasing motivation and energizing learning. Based on the fact that over 30% of graduates are employed in the first three months, doubling to 60% in the following months, we estimate an annual economic impact of €47.2 million injected into the local economy through graduate salaries. In the future, we expect this figure to rapidly double as new skills modules in the use of artificial intelligence are introduced,” says Paul Apostol, founder of Digital Nation.

Even after the program ends, participants remain part of the national community and benefit from continued access to job opportunities, webinars, community events (such as hackathons, conferences, trainings, etc.), Digital Nation hubs and ongoing community contact.

Partners of the previous editions of the program include companies such as Google.org together with Google Romania, Banca Transilvania, BCR, BRD – Groupe Société Générale, OMV Petrom, Romgaz, IBM, Kober, Kaufland Romania, Siemens Industry Software, Eviden, BearingPoint, Pentalog, Bepco, Kronsoft Development, Dinamic92, Metale International, Dolinex, Volta and others. In the extension of the program to the national level, partners such as the Brașov Metropolitan Agency together with the City Hall of Brașov, the City Hall of Piatra Neamț, the City Hall of Bucharest, the City Hall of Focșani, the City Hall of Suceava also played an important role.
