CIRCULARIO, developed by Pivot-C, is an initiative conceived as a response to the urgent need for a sustainable transformation within Romania. Recognizing the potential of the circular economy to address environmental challenges, the initiative unites government, industry, startups and academia to transform Romania with circular solutions. Focusing on key market sectors, it supports turning national goals into action piloting, scaling and embedding sustainability nationwide.

Recently launched at national level, it’s time for CIRCULARIO to go international and which better stage to make its debut if not at the World Circular Economy Forum 2024 (WCEF)?

WCEF, the world’s leading event for circular economy thinkers, doers and leaders showcasing the most impactful circular solutions from around the world, is held this year in Brussels between 15th -18th of April.

Just to get a better image of its scale and importance, you should know that the 2023 WCEF, held in Helsinki, Finland, reached people from 155 countries with over 2,600 participating in person or through studios, more than 12,600 online views plus more than 5,600 registrants for the partner-led accelerator sessions. It’s the place to be if you’re into circular economy as a government, company, startup, advocate, academic or expert.

And that’s exactly what we will do at Pivot-C, as this comes naturally as one of the pragmatic steps we take towards our visionary goals: we will be bringing back home new ideas, establish networking and collaboration opportunities, start a compendium of best practices and hopefully even set partnerships for new projects.

At PIVOT-C we believe in the power of a collaborative network focused on sustainability and circularity, integrating expertise across various disciplines. Leveraging a diverse group of multidisciplinary consulting experts, PIVOT-C pioneers environmental strategy, circular economy models and green marketing, redefining sustainable business practices.

Within the next two years, through CIRCULARIO we aim to unite key players in the circular economy, establish a common circularity language and launch a platform for showcasing projects, opportunities and innovative startups. The WCEF is the perfect place, with a mix of cutting-edge knowledge, expertise, examples of best practices and networking opportunities, to start all that.

We were also given the chance to put Romania’s case on the wall in one of the numerous workshops. We will be highlighting the current situation – were we stand, the country’s tremendous potential and the course of action towards becoming a circular economy, which has been set through the Action Plan for the National Circular Economy Strategy.

The future doesn’t look too bright at this point in time with the current take-make-use-discard type of economy. The global consumption of materials like fossil fuels, biomass, metals and minerals is expected to double in the next 40 years, while the annual waste generation is projected to increase by 70% by 2050. If we combine the agendas of circular economy and climate mitigation, according to the Circularity Gap Report 2023, we could double the current global circularity rate of 7.2% and cut 39% of total global emissions and 28% of virgin resource use. If we act together, firmly and quickly, is possible to shift the whole situation to our favour.
