6 out of 10 Romanians who subscribe to sports centers or clubs are men, and their goal is to increase their muscle mass (65%). Women, on the other hand, want to lose weight (69%).

According to the data obtained by ESX, the Romanian application that offers access to hundreds of sports centers in approximately 100 localities in the country, there is a large influx of customers after the holidays, and their favorite activities, in addition to fitness, are cycling, pilates, yoga, boxing, tennis, and dance. When the weather warms up, outdoor activities such as running, hiking or long walks make their way into the schedule of people who love to exercise.

“This year, the increase in the number of subscriptions in our network was significant, compared to previous years. In January, the percentage of new customer adoption is significantly higher than in the other months of the year: 50% more subscriptions were purchased at ESX partner sports centers.

In the last 18 months, the business has increased 10 times, so we can see that the beginning of the year and the new law by which gym memberships became non-taxable, significantly influenced people’s behavior in terms of interest in sports. It is obvious that Romanians want to lead a healthy and active lifestyle”, stated Andrei Trofin, CEO and founder of ESX.

The same data analyzed by the ESX startup team indicate the people from Bucharest as being the most active in sports, followed by customers from Iași, Cluj-Napoca, Timișoara, Brașov, and Sibiu. They mostly choose fitness as their top priority and practice it 3-4 times a week, followed by group activities.

The flexibility that the ESX application offers, giving each user access to any of the centers or clubs in the network, is highly appreciated: more than 60% of users choose to diversify their activities and alternate the locations they access during a month.

Currently, the ESX subscription offers customers access to approximately 500 fitness centers in 100 cities of the country, more than 150 of which are in Bucharest, and benefits such as various online fitness programs and nutrition information.

To improve the user experience, the ESX team plans to upgrade the application and web platform very soon and launch a 7-day demo on subscriptions purchased by new network members.
