SAP, the market leader in the business software solutions segment, celebrates 20 years of activity in Romania, with a team of 760 people and over 450 customers. From the regional perspective, Romania is the biggest contributor to SAP’s success in the Eastern Cluster and also a prepared market to deliver the most relevant trends – cloud and data insights.

The local subsidiary of SAP SE started in 2002, being one of the top local IT providers. Over the last 20 years, the company has made a significant contribution to the development of the local business environment and to the digital transformation of organizations. Today, about 450 companies in Romania use SAP solutions, from 27 industries such as utilities, transportation, banking, insurance, retail or manufacturing etc. Some of the most representative customers served by SAP over the two decades are, among others Azomures, Dedeman, Fan Courier, Hidroelectrica, Tarom, Romstal, Premier Restaurants.

SAP’s purpose is to make the world run better and improve people’s lives. We offer our customers the help, the experience and expertise needed in their journey to become intelligent and sustainable enterprises. After 50 years worldwide and 20 years locally, SAP has enabled innovation and differentiation because we stood near our customers at every single inflection point in the global economy and  supported them to make their transition non disruptively. Also, we are not focusing only on the present, but we assume the responsibility to build the future and the generations that will follow, together with our partners”, said Diana David, Managing Director SAP Romania.

One of SAP’s focus points for the future is the role of cloud technology in clients’ success. SAP’s own transition into the cloud was done before the pandemic and therefore created a much safer environment for all systems, being also a great advantage for the teams and customers. For being more resilient in case of crises, organizations need to make the transition to the cloud faster. It is very important to make systems available to everyone within the organization at any place and at any time.

Among the most representative projects of the company locally is the establishment of the Success Delivery Center Romania (SDC) 15 years ago which has a current team of 500 local consultants. The center offers services to global customers through a mixed delivery system, remotely or directly at the customer’s offices. Hence, customers can benefit from the advantage of the culture, language, and close time zone, in addition to traditional local or offshore deliveries. Currently, SAP consultants work at approx. 300 global projects per year.

Other top initiatives of SAP Romania are the establishment of the Enterprise Cloud Services team, which has reached 60 people in eight years, respectively the Data Science team, which has 13 employees. At the same time, the company has local software development units, including products, in addition to those of co-innovation and consulting from SDV for global projects, in which it operates approx. 160 specialists in various technologies.

When it comes to the future of work, in alignment with the employees’ needs and business requirements, SAP introduced a flexible work model called SAP’s Pledge to Flex. The SAP initiative is providing a setup that fits every role, style, and location with a 100% flexible and trust-based workplace as the norm – not the exception, an inclusive environment in which people can work either at the office or remotely. Everyone is therefore empowered to run at their personal best and schedule their working hours flexibly, aligned with the business needs. And they have all the necessary infrastructure to support them: inspiring office designs tailored for creativity, collaboration, community, focused work, and office buildings that prioritize sustainability and health.

Leading a company now is a little bit different compared with the previous years, taking into consideration the context, the generation change etc. Leaders should be able to reveal emotions, to show empathy and compassion, all of these being the driver of trust, performance, and respect. We should also take a good look at the soft skills of the people because sometimes, the soft skills are more important than the technology skills or competencies, which can be learned with a very good development plan. I strongly believe that the people are the most important part of any business and that the word that defines everything right now is <>”, adds Diana David.

In addition, SAP Romania is engaged in a variety of programs and actions when it comes to creating and supporting new talents in the market: partnerships with the universities, support for specialized educational NGOs, and other investments in social ventures that can respond to the current workforce challenge.

Romania is the SAP’s regional rising star

According to SAP’s regional representatives, Romania is the biggest contributor to SAP’s success in the Eastern Cluster – Southeast Europe and Ukraine, and a country with big potential in the tech market. Therefore, SAP will continue to invest further in this strategic market, that has all the elements for sustaining the upcoming trends.

I clearly see Romania as the rising star in Europe! Romania has everything it needs to thrive. One: young talents that are able to address challenges such as cloudification. For them, digital transformation is no longer an imperative but common reality. Thus, datafication will be the trend they will forge. Two: fast recovery times with regards to the GDP making it an attractive market for shareholders. Proof to that is the increase of FDI from all across Europe, specifically Germany! If there was one thing I would change – it would be how Romania is perceived as a brand. I believe the perception does not match the positive reality of the market. And I will continue to be Romania’s ambassador.”, said Josephin Galla, Managing Director SAP South East Europe & Ukraine.
