Romania’s new cars sales hit 10-year record in Jan-Apr

Sales of new cars in Romania rose by 27.8 percent in the first four months of this year, to 51,853 units, a 10-year high, according to the Automotive Manufacturers and Importers Association (APIA).

Out of total sales, 43,131 are passenger cars (+ 34.7 percent) and 8,722 commercial vehicles (+2 percent).

On the passenger cars segment, Dacia topped 13,052 units (30.3 percent market share, up 56.5 percent from the first four months of 2017), followed by Volkswagen (4,572 units, 10,6 percent market share), Skoda (4,009 units, 9.3 percent), Renault (3.190 units, 7.4 percent) and Ford (3.023 units, 7 percent).

Close to 64 percent of the new cars were bought by companies and only 36 percent by individual buyers.

The number of second-hand cars registered in Romania declined by 6.1 percent during the first four months of this year, to 157,120 units.

APIA estimates that around 500,000 second-hand cars will be imported in Romania in 2018.
