Philip Morris Romania has a new marketing director

Peter Schmidt has been appointed marketing director of Philip Morris Romania and Bulgaria. He has 29 years of professional experience, having held numerous marketing management positions over the years.

Prior to Romania, Schmidt served as global director Marlboro, brand development in the operations center in Lausanne where he was instrumental in developing and executing the new brand architecture for the Marlboro Gold franchise from 2007-11.

He joined Philip Morris USA in June 1983 in the marketing department in New York, USA. Four years later, he was appointed manager marketing services in Hong Kong and following to PMI in Japan as brand manager and after as group brand manager. After working in Japan for six years, Schmidt moved to Malaysia for 3 years, before returning to Hong Kong as director marketing services in 1995. In October, 1998, he took over the position of director duty free marketing and promotions, in Switzerland.  From 2002-06, Schmidt worked in a number of marketing functions in Switzerland primarily handling Marlboro brand development for the Eastern Europe and North Asia.

Philip Morris in Romania employs about 800 people, including approximately 500 who work in its Otopeni factory.
