It will have a gross leasable area of 55,000 sqm. Construction began last December.

Among the retailers which will be present in the future shopping mall there are Cinema City, Zara, Pull and Bear, Berska, Oysho, Sephora, Massimo Dutti, Stradivarius, Orsay, Office Shoes, Benvenuti, Lee Cooper, Be In Time, Sephora, Mohito, Altex, Noriel and Gymboland.

Rumors about a market exit

According to information published earlier this week on www.retaildetail.eu which quotes an ING report, Carrefour Group is rumored to exit up to nine countries this summer due to unsatisfactory results. These 9 countries are Argentina, Belgium, Greece, Italy, Malaysia, Poland, Romania, Taiwan and Turkey.

According to the site, Carrefour’s CEO elect Georges Plassat “will have to resort to firm actions when he announces his company’s half year results, as his predecessor’s tactics failed to deliver. Emerging markets did not bring the positive results current CEO Lars Olofsson was hoping for, and neither did his plan of resuscitating Carrefour’s hypermarkets – which used to be the company’s pride, but are now Carrefour’s achilles heel”.

Carrefour representatives have not commented on the information so far. However, in the past the company has exited several markets. This includes South Korea, Algeria, Austria, the US, Chile and Germany.

In Romania Carrefour’s sales totaled EUR 227 million in the first quarter of this year, up 3.6 percent (at current exchange rates) and 6.6 percent (at constant exchange rates) against the same period of last year, according to a company report.
