The cleaning expert, Kärcher Romania, announces the successful completion of the cleaning project of two of most important cultural and historical landmarks in Brasov: The Sică Alexandrescu Theatre and the fountain in the Council Square. This event marks an important step in the company’s mission, reinforcing its commitment to the preservation of Romania’s cultural heritage, following the editions in Sibiu and Timisoara.

Preserving Romania’s cultural values

The Council Square in Brasov, a symbol of local history and tradition, has been restored to its former glory with the help of Kärcher cleaning technologies. Deeply rooted in Brasov’s cultural heritage, the Council Square is one of the iconic places in the city, visited by millions of tourists every year.

During a working week the fountain and the area around it were entirely cleaned and the chewing gum removed from the pavement, helping to reinvigorate this historical outdoor corner.

In parallel, The Sică Alexandrescu Theatre, a cultural gem of Brasov, underwent a meticulous cleaning process, as well. Kärcher Romania brought its expertise in the delicate cleaning of historical buildings, restoring the brilliance and beauty of this theatre by removing graffiti from the 800 square meters of exterior walls, cleaning the pedestal of the Andrei Mureșan statue, and 1,400 square meters inside the building: cleaning the marble floor, the interior stairs, the carpet in the foyer, and the Great Hall balcony.

“The cleaning project carried out in Brasov is part of our local social commitment for a cleaner world. It has taken shape thanks to a collective effort, with 14 Kärcher experts and 30 volunteers working side by side for 5 days to clean the two chosen targets: the Sică Alexandrescu Municipal Theatre and the fountain in the Council Square. We are dedicated to bringing value to our communities, and through this initiative, we contribute to maintaining and preserving Brasov’s rich cultural heritage for future generations,” says Monica Iavorschi, CEO Kärcher Romania.

Kärcher technologies used in the project

The Kärcher Romania team brought back the original shine of the Council Square and the Municipal Theatre in Brasov, using the most modern cleaning technologies to date. The process included a meticulous evaluation of each item in the square, followed by the use of37 specialized equipment with 10 types of technologies to achieve high quality results: high-pressure cleaning with water but also sandblasting, steam cleaning, mechanized sweeping, floor washing with scrubber-vacuum equipment and textile washing with spray-extraction vacuum cleaners, window vacuuming but also classic and wet-dry vacuuming.

Kärcher’s mission

Kärcher is dedicated to the preservation and revitalization of world’s cultural and historical heritage, and with this project in Brasov the company continues a long tradition of involvement in the preservation of cultural heritage sites.

Since 1980, as part of its sustainability strategy, equipment manufacturer Kärcher has restored and cleaned more than 191 monuments and buildings around the world, a significant contribution to the preservation of these important cultural monuments.

In addition to Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, the list of cultural monuments cleaned includes the Statue of Liberty in New York and the sculptures of the heads of presidents on Mount Rushmore. Cleaning work is always carried out together with restorers and art historians. Last year, St. George’s Square in Timisoara was cleaned.

In the context of Brasov’s recognition as one of the best tourist destinations in the world in 2024, according to Tripadvisor’s ranking, the importance of maintaining and promoting the city’s cultural and historical values becomes more than obvious. Brasov ranks 21st in this ranking, being the only location in Europe included in this ranking.
