Startups and small companies are seeking individuals to help them withstand a tough market

The small business sector in Romania has traditionally been highly dynamic, with tens of thousands of LLCs established each year. From the beginning of the year to the present, over 56,000 new LLCs have been registered, according to data published by the National Trade Register Office (ONRC). Furthermore, the percentage of newly established firms in 2023 that are recruiting through BestJobs has reached 15%, an increase compared to the same period last year.

Most of the small companies that have recruited in the first 8 months of this year through BestJobs are from cities such as Bucharest, Cluj, Timișoara, Iași, and Constanța.

On average, a startup seeks to fill between two and four positions, with most hires occurring among startups in fields such as services, transportation, retail, or logistics.

“These firms, which are just starting out, have a limited budget and are often pressed for time, making them the ones most in need of the right people as quickly as possible. At the same time, the Romanian startup ecosystem is one of the main catalysts of innovation, having a significant impact on Romania’s economic growth. As the number of jobs offered by startups and small employers has increased, so has candidates’ interest in them. In the first 8 months of the year, nearly 500,000 applications were submitted for jobs/employers of the startup type, a 10% increase compared to the same period last year.

“The salaries and benefits offered by startups are at a level similar to those offered by large companies because most entrepreneurs seek to recruit well-prepared individuals with extensive experience in their field, who can contribute to the company’s growth. Since these people usually come from large companies to leave their current job, a startup must provide them with salary and non-salary benefits that match their qualifications,” said Ana Vișian, Marketing Manager at BestJobs.

According to ONRC, the domains with the most newly established companies in the first 7 months are Wholesale and Retail Trade and Repair of Motor Vehicles and Motorcycles (16,581), Transportation and Storage (9,225), Construction (8,978), Agriculture, Forestry, and Fishing (8,315), and Professional, Scientific, and Technical Activities (7,917).
