Peștera Wellness & Spa Hotel, a new 5-star hotel in Romania

Tourists looking for luxury locations in the middle of the mountains will have, from the summer of 2024, a new destination in Romania. Peștera Wellness & Spa will be a 5-star hotel, located next to the current Peștera Hotel in the Peștera-Padina tourist resort, Bucegi Mountains.

The architecture project started in the summer of 2020, and the owners estimate that they will invest around 15 million euros to ensure the new hotel is at a true 5-star standard. The HoReCa consulting and turnkey interior design part are signed by the Grosu Art Studio team, led by the architect Victor Grosu.

A history of 100 years

Since 2003, when it was bought by the current owners, the Calcan family, work has been carried out to modernize and expand the tourist services offered. In September 2023, a special event will mark 100 years of tradition in hospitality.

Stellar location & luxurious amenities

The current Peștera Hotel is distinguished by its spectacular location, located at an altitude of 1610m, in the “geometric center of Bucegi”, in the immediate vicinity of the Peștera Monastery and the Ialomița Cave.

“All those who now cross our threshold are amazed by the clean air, the peace, the surroundings, the positive energy, and the hospitable people who welcome them. We wanted to be able to give them even more. We are lovers of the mountain, we believe in the potential of this area and, because we have seen many special places in the world, we wanted to offer our guests at home, in Romania, special tourist services”, explains Dana Calcan.

The new project, whose inauguration will take place on June 27, 2024, will have all the equipment and facilities of a five-star hotel. Generous spaces both in the rooms and in the areas intended for bar or restaurant services, a SPA with three pools, one of which is outdoor, a Wellness area with saunas, ice fountains and showers will adorn the new hotel.

“They wanted a space with a unique, unrepeatable atmosphere, which bears the mark of the place. We went for a lot of emotion, light, atmosphere, warmth, and used stone, engineered wood, fur accents. As in all our HoReCa projects, the interior design is subordinate to the business concept. We develop the thinking, the concept, not only in terms of interior design, but to obtain a unique product that encompasses all the experiences of a stay here. We thought about how people spend their time in the mountains: in autumn, winter, you can’t stay outside for a long time, so you will stay in the hotel: in the room, in the lobby, in the restaurant, or in the sauna, at the SPA. There will also be an open-air Sky Lounge on the roof with a unique view of the mountains,” elaborates architect Victor Grosu.

The two restaurants will offer a Romanian gastronomic experience, both traditional and reinterpreted, gourmet. The supply will be made from local suppliers, with whom Hotel Peștera already collaborates, to support the local economy.

Smart Solutions & Green Energy

“The 5-star standard means maximum comfort, that’s why we want to integrate Smart Home solutions, both in rooms and in public and administrative spaces. The bed is not placed standardly, against the wall, it is thought of as an island, so that you wake up in the morning, rested after a sleep on a premium mattress, open the curtains from the remote control and enjoy the view, without any effort,” states architect Victor Grosu.

Since the constructions are located in a natural park, the owners are concerned about the sustainable aspect of the project and want to incorporate as many green measures as possible. The ice rinks will be ecological, the kitchen will be equipped with a compost machine and green energy will be used, through solar panels. In addition, the new Peștera Wellness & Spa 5-star Hotel will, like the existing establishment, use exclusively spring water for everything from cooking and showers.

The Calcan family is working in parallel on the development of the slope sleighs and aims to invest another 5 million euros by 2027 in other functions necessary for the tourist development of the area: the Peștera Inn and the Cascada Ialomiței Guesthouse.
