As part of its strategic objectives in growing its business in Europe, SofMedica is expanding its territory footprint in Hungary adding this promising CEE market next to Romania, Greece, Bulgaria and Cyprus. The scope is to consolidate its preeminent position as a leading provider of innovative technologies destined to fight the leading causes of mortality worldwide, namely cancer and cardiovascular disease (CVD).

After the proven success in implementing its business model in the other four EU countries where it is present since 1994, SofMedica plans for a 5 million Euro investment in the Hungarian healthcare market, providing public and private hospitals with innovative technology including its flagship product, the da Vinci robotic-assisted surgical system.

In 2020 over 1.2 million da Vinci procedures were performed around the world using an installed base of approximately 6000 systems. The dynamic evolution of robotic surgery in this region is demonstrated by a sustained, high rate of utilization in Greece, as well as the recent implementation of successful programs in Bulgaria. In Hungary, it is expected that very soon patients will also benefit from the advantages of robotic surgery, such as reduced hospitalization, less postoperative complications, and increased quality of life.

Georgios Sofianos – CEO – SofMedica Group, states: “Our scope is to collaborate with all relevant public institutions and build a long-term partnership, to accelerate the digitalization of the healthcare system in Hungary and to provide the Hungarian healthcare professionals with the best medical technologies, but technology is never enough though. As we have demonstrated so far, in collaboration with renowned Medical Universities we can provide the Healthcare professionals with the most relevant continuous medical education and as a result make some of the best available technologies available for all patients in our region.”

The decision of entering in the Hungarian market is a result of discussions with healthcare professionals, who expressed the need for access to innovative medical technologies such as robotic surgery, bronchoscopy, oncology diagnostics, and ICU and OR monitoring. The expansion on Hungarian Market comes along with an ambitious recruitment plan and also with seeking for biomedical engineers and experienced clinical sales professionals to join its dynamic team.

“Our 22 year relationship with a number of leading Med Tech companies, strategic manufacturing suppliers of ours such as Intuitive, as well as the 32 successful robotic-assisted surgery programs developed in our region, are guaranteeing the successful launch and development of the first programs in Hungary.” said Harris Palaondas – Managing Director – SofMedica.

As part of its value proposition to the Hungarian Market, SofMedica will provide a unique portfolio of innovative medical technologies accompanied by full clinical and technical support. Additionally, it will provide a complete framework for the development of local healthcare professionals through ISLE Academy (Innovation, Simulation, Learning, Ecosystem), as well as through other renowned training centers in Europe and the United States.

SofMedica- Life Saving Innovation is a member of SofMedica Group, an education-oriented Group of Companies focused on Healthcare, operating in Europe (Romania, Greece, Bulgaria, Cyprus, and Hungary) since 1994 and actively participating in numerous initiatives aimed at creating sustainable change for patients in European countries.
