The Republic of Moldova is in the process of simplifying its business environment in order to attract more foreign investors as a development strategy for the next 10 years, stated Dumitru Alaiba, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova and Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization, during a roundtable organized by the French Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIFER) at the Franco-Romanian Business Forum held in Bucharest on July 3rd and 4th.

The tax code is easy to comply with, and profits are only taxed when converted into dividends to support investments. The economy is export-oriented to compensate for the small market size, the official exemplified. The Deputy Prime Minister also mentioned that the government is currently working on reducing regulations that limit the business environment.

Olivier Becht, Minister Delegate at the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, responsible for Foreign Trade, Attractiveness, and French presence internationally, reiterated France’s support for the rapprochement between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union, especially in the context of the war in Ukraine. He also expressed support for the development of business relations between the two countries.

Both the President of CCIFER, Julien Munch, and the President of the similar organization in Chisinau, Emmanuel Skoulios, emphasized the common interest in increasing business relations between France, Romania, and the Republic of Moldova. In fact, many French companies investing in the Republic of Moldova do so through their subsidiaries in Romania.

In the second part of the event, representatives of CCIFER member companies, Liudmila CLIMOC (Orange), Monica JIMAN (Pentalog), Adrian DRAGAN (Timac AGRO), Andrei CHITANU (Zorile), spoke about their experiences in the Moldovan market. Among the mentioned advantages are: a high level of digital coverage – the country is fully covered by a 4G network, a strong openness to innovation and new technological solutions, expertise in technical fields, excellent resources in agriculture, and increased resilience in the face of crises.
